If you want to spend a calm day far away from the hustle and bustle of Istanbul, this excursion to Princess Island is perfect! Enjoy a cruise on the Marmara Sea to the Princess Islands. Your ferry will bring you in 75 minutes to the Princess Islands Büyükada. In the times of the Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman Empires the islands were used as exile sites and as a monastery region. Today only 4 of the total 9 Princes’ Islands are open to public settlement. Your boat will bring you to the most famous and most beautiful of these islands called Büyükada. The name is meaning Big Island and the size of the island is 5,4 km2 and has 7.300 inhabitants. Except for the fire brigade, police, and ambulance, only carriages and bicycles are allowed here. - Take a walk through the center and get used to the silence that reigns on the island. - See the Merkez Eczanesi, a pharmacy from 1870, and feel like being in a time tunnel. - Go to Hamlaci Street 4 and see the ruin of the villa, in which Trotsky lived in exile between 1929 and 1933, writing his autobiography and the three volumes on the "History of the Russian Revolution". - Rent a bike and take a round trip on the island. Along the way, admire the magnificent old villas lining up the streets. - Explore the Greek Orthodox St. George Church on top of the island's tallest hill. - Enjoy fantastic views of Istanbul, the Marmara Sea, and the neighboring islands. - Stopover and visit the former Greek Orphanage, Europe’s largest and the world's second-largest wooden house. - Have a delicious lunch in one of the many restaurants around the harbor. - Go to one of the public beaches (halk plaji) or beach clubs for swimming and sunbathing or keep on exploring the island. - If you like hiking, you can also walk the island tour.Departure times From Istanbul: 9:45 am, 10:45am, 11:45am, 1:45pm. From Princes Island: Every hour, the last ferry returns at 6pm.Languages The Bosphorus Cruise audioguide app is available in English, French, German, Italian, Polish, Russian, Spanish, Turkish, Arabic, and Chinese. About This Experience

Description

This Turkish archipelago used to be the holiday destination of choice for the rich and famous. And with stunning Greek Orthodox monasteries, wooden houses, beautiful unspoiled forests, and gorgeous beaches—it's hard not to see why. Princes' Islands, or Adalar, is made up of nine small, mostly car-free, islands and is known for its horse-drawn carriages, reminiscent of a time gone by. Only four of the nine islands are inhabited, with Buyukada and Heybeliada being the largest. Decide for yourself which ones you want to visit, or book a boat tour from the Istanbul mainland that will take you to some of the best sights. – Tripadvisor

Amazing day trip to Princess Island with guide Hamza and great lunch too.

Our guide Hamza was really friendly and very informative. Showed us around all the sights and made our trip a really memorable one. Would definitely recommend him to our family and friends.

Unexpected tourist tax!

Buyukada is a lovely island. IWe were warned not to eat near the harbour so walked up further to the main square. Prices shown on the menu. No mention of tax. When the bill arrived 1000tl put on the bill! I was not impressed. We have visited the smaller islands and we're not scammed this way. Yes it is a scam on tourists. My partner lives and works here on a permit and his colleagues confirmed it. Please take a picnic like most of the Turks. There is a Migros to buy drinks from also. I will not be wasting my money in any of these restaurants again. They need to clean up their act on this misrepresentation and also the litter around the rocks and sea.

Extra touristic place

I don’t really know how people “escape from Istanbul” here, because of its Extremely touristic place. Visiting on Saturday, all the roads were full of tourists, restaurants and local businesses are mostly oriented to take as much money as possible with the least good service. Nature and architecture is really good, but it looks like a background for touristic photography only, because of there are lines of people doing photos only, not enjoying and really watching the place. Bicycle rent, which is advertised all over is totally not useful there, because of an island is full of up and down roads which make impossible to ride a bike for more then 10 minutes for a anyone not being professional sportsman. The place is too overrated, don’t recommend.

Meh..

The islands were meh… the boat trip was nice even though the organizers obviously forgot to pick us up and only reacted when we started contacting them after waiting 30 min.
