An unexpected gem
Not what we expected! Free parking and a warm welcome, wheelchair accessible at the entrance. 50QAR to enter per adult. A free map was provided and the friendly receptionist explained the best route. Just as we were about to start the tour the owner, Sheikh Faisal Bin Qassam Al Thani arrived and insisted on a group photograph and presented us with his own book on the history of Qatar, an absolute honour. The museum is his private collection of treasures, which has to be seen to be believed. Everything was beautifully presented, and whilst more information might have been useful on some items it did not detract from what we saw. Frequently a member of staff guided and educated us on specific objects. It is not possible to state everything that is on display, but it goes from the very ancient to the modern world, with surprises in between. At the end of the tour you come to the car collection, it is simply stunning. Vehicles from the conception of the motor vehicle through to the beautiful ‘Eleanor’ Mustang GT500. Overall an excellent museum and well worth seeing.
