Amazing mosque that cant be missed

The structure speaks for itself. Truly an amazing edifice of faith and history. The interior and exterior were absolutely spectacular and even the view from our Bosporus cruise was awe inspiring. Obviously one of the major reasons to visit Istanbul. The issue for us was just trying to figure out the logistics of visiting . The ticket itself is only 25€ but our concern was whether or not it was going to require lining up at the tickets office either very early or suffer the wait time later in the day. There are numerous ways to get a ticket through a 3rd party which is obviously more expensive but also guarantees that you will avoids waiting in a potentially very long line. We visited off season in November but used a tour guide to avoid lines throughout the day. Retrospectively, I think we would have done fine in terms of the waiting time since the line was not long at all. The security line was much longer but we also traveled off season. The information from our tour guide though was clearly worth the extra expense. So perhaps judge what to do by the time of the year. But regardless absolutely do not miss the Hagia Sophia. Enjoy.

Amazing Place

Hagia Sophia absolutely blew me away. The place is huge and full of amazing details every corner feels like it has a story. Even with the crowds, the atmosphere is incredible. Definitely one of the coolest spots to see in Istanbul.

Magnificent

Visiting Hagia Sophia was a truly unforgettable experience. This incredible architectural masterpiece holds centuries of history within its walls, and stepping inside feels like walking through time. Originally built as a cathedral, later transformed into a mosque, and now a museum, Hagia Sophia reflects the rich cultural and religious diversity of Istanbul.

Lowlight of our trip to Istanbul

Overall, this site was okay. I've been to a lot of mosques and I didn't find this one markedly better than the average, certainly not the best in my opinion. The reason for the one star is because I found the pricing to be very deceptive. In fact, this is the only government run tourist attraction I've ever been to where I felt like I was scammed (and I've traveled to over two dozen countries). When we bought tickets, we were told that there were two options: free and paid for around $60. When I asked what the difference is, they said the free you just get the balcony and the paid gets you a deeper, more thorough look into the hagia sophia. To me, this sounded like we'd get access to different parts of the monument that the free ticket users didn't. Boy, was I wrong. Instead, we found out that the extra price we paid was to go to a museum. Not once did the ticket seller say we were paying for a museum. Had he done so we would have absolutely not paid the $60. This was extremely disappointing and was a complete waste of money. Deceptive and ultimately this was the lowlight of our entire trip in Turkey. Don't waste your money on the upsell and if you're strapped for time in Istanbul, skip this site altogether.

Beware of ticket upsell trick

Hagia Sophia is beautiful but I can only echo the comments already made below that you have to be extra careful not to be ripped off for the tickets by the official vendors. It says clearly that entrance to the balcony is 25 euros and then you end up with a 50 euros per person charge, which I only discovered later, because they add some other museum. Being tricked like this by the official ticket office is something I did not expect. Because of ongoing renovation work and huge construction beams being installed inside, the views from the balcony are also very limited at the moment. Best to admire the Hagia Sophia from the outside and go to the blue mosque next door, which is free and you have lots of very kind people explaining more about Islam and culture all around the venue.
