Temporarily closed. This historic watchtower, also known as the Galata Kulesi Museum, can be found at the end of Istanbul’s Istiklal shopping street. Today, this museum has exhibition spaces where you can learn about the area's history and admire the iconic architecture of this stone tower. Head up to the observation deck, where you'll be treated to sweeping views of the city and the Bosphorus Strait. It gets busy during sunset though—you can skip the lines with an Istanbul Museum Pass. There are loads of shops and restaurants in the area too—you can explore the tower and the surrounding area on a guided tour of Istanbul.

Galata is one of the most charming parts of Istanbul. The streets are full of character, with a mix of historic buildings, cozy cafés, and small boutiques. The area around Galata Tower is always lively, and the view from the top is truly impressive—especially at sunset. It’s a great place to walk around, take photos, and enjoy the city’s unique atmosphere.
Rotterdam, South Holland Province
Perhaps more appealing as an Istanbul landmark than one of the many mosques, the former Galata watch tower stands out in the densely populated north part of the city. Though originally built by the Genoese in 1348, the tower took on different functions during the Ottoman era. Nowadays it is a museum. It is 'temporarily' closed for visitors.
