Souk Waqif is a showpiece of traditional architecture, handicrafts and folk art, and was once a weekend trading area for the Bedouins. The only traditional souk to remain in the Gulf, it’s now a charming labyrinth of narrow streets where visitors can bargain and purchase an amazingly diverse range of products. A visit to one of the falcon shops is a unique experience – some shopkeepers will allow you to photograph and handle the birds while explaining equipment and training. There are regular displays of folk dance and music, particularly on festive occasions, and opportunities to take authentic pictures. Enjoy your day or evening at the Souk followed by a dinner in one of the local restaurants.

Beautiful and mesmerising

This is mesmerising, we arrived just at sun down and it was beautiful watching it transform and come to life. We were part of a tour so wish we’d had slightly longer to just browse and explore. However lots of nice little stores for gifts and Nic Nacs. There was a good selection of local street food too. Beautifully photogenic place and a hint of traditional life tucked in off the mainstream bizz of the corniche and the highway. Worth a visit for sure.

Lively Market with something for everyone

We went in the evening, when then market is well lit and has a beautiful charm. The main allies have a lot of tourist shops and restaurants and are very lively. The alleyways are narrow and have a lot of fabric and local good shops, and you see a lot of locals buying their wares here. Great stop to wander around and feel the vibe of the place.

Forget Dubai think Doha

This is our second time in Doha. The Souq Waqif area is a must go to place to stay. Especially the Tivoli Hotels. Amazing staff. They have 8 hotels in the Souq area and are all perfect in their own way. The staff work all the hotels so you get a chance to be real friendly. We experienced Shahin and Sunita who were extremely friendly and helpful beyond what they needed to be. Forget Dubai , think Doha
