This tour starts through the Hajar Mountains to the township of Nizwa, the ancient capital of Oman. At Nizwa you will visit Nizwa Fort and the Traditional Souq. From there you will travel through the deep Wadi Ghul and arrive at Jebel Shams “Mountain of the Sun” the undisputed lord of the mountains. Jebel Shams is the highest peak of the Jebel Al Akhdar mountain range, soaring 3,000 meters above sea level, spectacular scenery, ancient rock carvings and remote villages. This is the Grand Canyon of Oman. There will be time to experience some of the breath-taking scenery before continuing to the beautiful old village of Misfah. The village of Misfah is perched on the side of a mountain where narrow ancient stone pathways lead you into the valley below. Lunch in a local restaurant at the top of the mountain, afterwards you will explore this ancient labyrinth the region of Al Hamra before your return trip to Muscat. To experience the Grand Canyon is to experience the very best of Oman.

Amazing

Simply amazing. We stopped at all of the overlooks on the southern rim and were amazed at how different the canyon looked from each.

Amazing view

The view was spectacular and pictures didn’t do it justice for just how big the canyon is! Lots of parking, shuttle services between areas which we took when we got to the end of the trail.

There is no bad view of the spectacular Grand Canyon!

Proud to be an official resident of the Grand Canyon! There is no bad view! Everywhere you look it is breathtaking to behold this natural wonder! Definitely worth planning a trip to the Grand Canyon! The south rim is extremely well maintained with natural trails accessible for everyone to enjoy!

Definite bucket list vacation site

August at the Grand Canyon was a pretty great time to be there. Yeah, it got hot by mid-day but if you get up early and get in the park and hike down about a mile before 10 AM, it makes for a great experience without the spring and fall crowds. Wear walking shoes!!Be very responsible if you walk down to the first bathroom…it is a serious effort to walk back out and if you are not generally fit you become a danger and a burden for park ranges rescue squad. 100% carry more water than you think you need if you hike down for 30+ minutes . Guided tours will help you learn more and spot petroglyphs…I was with someone that had knowledge and could point them out, so we didn’t do a guided hike. The rim trail is a mix of paved and pea gravel and you can hop on and off the busses as well. The wind was significant at the rim so hold tight to your belongs(hat/sunglasses/small kids).
